Rachel B. Cook, M.D., received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas A&M University, graduating with Magna Cum Laude distinction. She then attended Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine, during which time in addition to her studies, she participated as a volunteer educator in a local school health education initiative and provided medical care at a community free clinic. She also participated in medical mission trips to Mexico with Christian Medical Association and Honduras with Medical Ministry International and spent a summer in Kazakhstan learning international medicine. After graduating as a Doctor of Medicine, she completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. Following this she had the great privilege of completing her ophthalmology residency training at the Scott & White Eye Institute in Temple, Texas and served as Chief Resident during her final year. Throughout residency she continued to participate in school and community medical education activities, lecturing at Belton High School to pharmacology classes about glaucoma treatment, providing free eye examinations and education for Scott & White Health Plan sponsored Diabetes Day clinics, and lectured at the 2014 Scott & White Family Medicine Review Course to Texas primary care providers about the basics of eye disease and management.
Dr. Cook is now proud to join the Berkeley Eye Center family to continue the Berkeley tradition of providing compassionate eye care with excellence primarily in our Brenham location as a comprehensive ophthalmologist. She offers routine and screening eye exams, cataract evaluations and premium cataract surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK), glaucoma and diabetes treatment, and medically necessary eyelid surgery.
Dr. Cook is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Texas Medical Association and the Christian Ophthalmology Society.
Although she grew up in Liberty, Texas, she fondly considers Brenham a second home as her family’s roots in Brenham go back nearly 130 years and she has many childhood memories of summers and holidays in Brenham with her family. Dr. Cook and her husband Jared are now very happy to call Brenham their home. Her interests include travel, cooking, antique furniture restoration, medical mission work, and spending time with friends and family.
