Dr. Roosevelt Gloyd III is a Certified Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist providing comprehensive eye care at Berkeley Eye Center’s Champions and Weslayan locations. Since joining Berkeley Eye Center in 2005, he has established a reputation as a highly experienced clinician, bringing specialized expertise in glaucoma treatment, refractive surgery co-management, and general family practice to Houston’s diverse communities.
A graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry, Dr. Gloyd demonstrated significant leadership during his doctoral studies, serving as the President of the American Optometric Student Association and as a member of the Gold Key National Honor Society. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Prairie View A&M University, where he was a dedicated leader within the Student Government Association, a Student Housing Dorm Director, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
What sets Dr. Gloyd apart is his unique specialized training in the diagnosis and management of visual disorders associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Gained through an intensive internship at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR), this expertise allows him to address complex visual challenges in both verbal and non-verbal patients. Combined with his extensive background in refractive surgery co-management and medical glaucoma treatment, Dr. Gloyd provides a sophisticated level of care for patients with a wide range of vision needs. His commitment to the next generation of eye care professionals is reflected in his role as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry, a position he has held since 2018.
