Shawn C. Kavoussi, M.D.

Berkeley Eye Center is excited to welcome board-certified retina surgeon, Shawn Kavoussi, M.D. to our team of physicians. Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Kavoussi provides retina care to patients at several of our Berkeley Eye Center locations, including Greenway Plaza, Katy, Memorial, Kingwood, the Woodlands, Pearland, Huntsville, and Atascocita.

Having spent the better part of the last two decades here in Houston, Dr. Kavoussi received his Bachelor’s from Rice University where he was one of only 15 students selected to the Rice-Baylor Medical Scholars program. He then earned his Doctorate of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by a transitional year internship at the University of Texas Houston.

Dr. Kavoussi completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital System. During his residency, he earned the Resident Research Award for his work on the genetics of age-related macular degeneration. Following residency, Dr. Kavoussi returned to Houston where he completed a two-year vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.

In addition to being highly skilled in the most advanced retina surgical techniques, Dr. Kavoussi has served as an investigator in industry-sponsored clinical trials and has published extensively in the peer-reviewed ophthalmic literature. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Houston Ophthalmologic Society, and the Harris County Medical Society. He has presented his research at meetings both at the state and national levels.

Dr. Kavoussi is a Texas native, and in his spare time he enjoys traveling, playing the guitar, and maintaining an active lifestyle.
