LASIK is a surgical procedure for vision correction. Each year, more than a million people undergo LASIK to treat their myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism and become glasses-free. No more contacts or glasses, no more hassle! A LASIK procedure takes only a few minutes to complete. Patients remain awake and comfortable during the entire procedure. Most patients report little, if any, discomfort. Our LASIK procedures are performed in the comfort and safety of a specially designed laser suite at the Berkeley Eye Center. To help reduce possible risks and complications, factors such as humidity, temperature and overall air quality are closely monitored and maintained. Our LASIK Technology

The iLASIK difference: Intralase versus Microkeratome
Several types of LASIK are available. When considering your vision correction procedure, it is important to understand exactly what kind of treatment you will receive. Berkeley Eye Center performs 100% blade-free all-laser ilASIK using an Intralase. This prcedure is also called IntraLASIK. The first step in Laser Vision Correction is creating a very thin flap of tissue that is folded back during treatment. The second step is reshaping the exposed surface with the Excimer laser and replacing the flap. ![]() The iLASIK difference is in the first step. Some practices still use a mechanical, bladed device called a microkeratome to create the flap. With the bladed style microkeratome there was an increased risk of complications such as corneal abrasions, irregular flaps, as well as button-hole flaps. The iLASIK procedure uses an Intralase, which is a second laser to create the flap. Using an Intralase offers added safety for patients by eliminating the blade. Berkeley Eye Center offers the iLASIK procedure. For more information on iLASIK or IntraLASIK, please visit their website at: www.intralase.com WaveFront Optimized versus Custom Wavefront:
