Ralph G. Berkeley, M.D., is included in the prestigious list of top surgeons nationwide in refractive and cataract surgery. Dr. Berkeley has been honored by his peers as one of the “Best Doctors in America.” Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1961, Dr. Berkeley is recognized as a pioneer in refractive surgery. He began performing refractive surgery in 1979 and has performed many thousands of procedures.
Dr. Berkeley is also among a group of clinical investigators who were selected to be involved in the approval process for the Excimer laser, including LASIK-Laser Vision Correction. Dr. Berkeley continues to be involved in current clinical research for advanced laser procedures including the investigation of an intraocular lens implant designed for the correction of moderate to high hyperopia (farsightedness).
A native Texan, Dr. Berkeley received his medical degree from Baylor University College of Medicine. After an internship at Houston’s Hermann Hospital, Dr. Berkeley served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Presbyterian Hospital in New York. He served as Chief of Staff for Twelve Oaks Hospital and is a member of the medical staff of Park Plaza Hospital. Dr. Berkeley is a former president of the American Board of Eye Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.). He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Texas Medical Association. In addition, he has been invited through the years to speak at numerous national and international medical conferences.
