Tecnis® Multifocal IOL

The Tecnis® Multifocal intraocular lens significantly improves vision after cataract surgery, providing freedom from glasses at all distances – even in dim light.

tecnis_multifocal_lensAn implantable lens designed to correct presbyopia, the Tecnis® Multifocal allows cataract patients to live without reading glasses or bifocals. Unlike a monofocal lens which only corrects vision at a distance, the Tecnis® Multifocal provides high quality eyesight whether near, far or somewhere in between. This high quality vision is even experienced in poor lighting conditions.

If you enjoy reading, playing tennis, knitting, surfing the internet, or other activities that require vision at various distances, the Tecnis® Multifocal lens will enable you to live the active lifestyle you want.

Whether reading (near), working on a computer (intermediate) or driving on a freeway (far), the Tecnis® Multifocal lens provides high quality vision no matter the distance. Patients experience high quality vision even in low light environments, such as a dimly lit restaurant or while driving at night.

Nearly nine out of 10 patients with the Tecnis® Multifocal lens never have to wear glasses after the procedure. If they could do it all over, 94% of patients would choose to have the Tecnis® Multifocal implanted again, according to a recent clinical study.

The lens removal and implant technique used with the Tecnis® Multifocal IOL procedure is performed over 15 millions times per year worldwide, and is noted for its safety and predictability. Despite this, every surgical procedure has risks and side effects. Some patients may experience an adjustment period to their new lenses in which they encounter a glare or halos around bright light. This usually goes away over a period of weeks or months.

The Procedure

The natural lens in your eye is removed through a tiny incision in the surface of the cornea. The Tecnis® Multifocal lens is then inserted to permanently replace the cataract-impaired lens. The procedure takes approximately 15-45 minutes, and most patients notice improved vision immediately.

Who is a candidate for the Tecnis® Multifocal Lens?

If you have been diagnosed with cataracts, you may be a candidate for the Tecnis® Multifocal IOL. Whether you choose the Tecnis® Multifocal Lens or another multifocal lens depends on your personal preference, lifestyle and the health of your eyes. The best way to find out if you are a candidate is to schedule a consultation.
